City View of Barcelona - Things to do in Barcelona

Barcelona is a very popular tourist attraction for many reasons including the many things to do in Barcelona. It has beautiful architecture, delicious food, fun activities, and it has a very rich history. In fact, the first known visitors to the area were the ancient Greeks who discovered the city of Barcino. The Romans used what they found here to make what we now know as modern-day Barcelona (most notably their famous amphitheater).

Then during medieval times, there was a war between Catalan counties and Castile which led to Catalonia becoming its own kingdom. Eventually, however, Catalunya became part of Spain again but not all of those living in Catalunya agreed with this, and what we now know as the Spanish Civil War broke out. After this was over, Barcelona remained a part of Spain but would soon experience another war that decimated what it had left – World War II.

Luckily, what remained of Barcelona after all these wars is what we see today. If you are planning a trip to Spain and Portugal, be sure to read my easy Spain and Portugal Itinerary.

Here you’ll be able to find what’s called “hotels”, but these are really just apartments that have been turned into what they call hostels because there are still some parts where renting out studio-sized apartments would cost too much money for what they actually are.

Barri Gotic has what’s known as the Gothic Quarter which is another very popular area with lots of shops, bars, restaurants! This area is especially great for shopping because everything here is within walking distance and this makes it much more accessible than other areas of Barcelona which require public transportation or cars.
