Best time to visit Danyang

The best times to visit Danyang will always be the best times to visit South Korea which are spring and fall. There are negatives and positives about each depending on the circumstances. The weather for the spring and fall is usually the best. I would not recommend visiting during the summer since most of these locations are outdoors and I don’t want you to die of Korean summers. Winters can be okay since the weather is usually good other than the cold and potential snow. 

How to get to Danyang

The best way to get to Danyang would be by car, however, there are possibilities of getting there via public transportation since Korea has excellent public transportation service. 

By Car

Driving will be your best bet since it’s the easiest and fastest way to get around from location to location. It can be difficult to get around in Danyang once you are there because public transportation delays your opportunity in the things to see and do there.

From Seoul

Take the KTX from Cheongnyangni Station and arrive at Danyang Station which takes about 1.5 hours and from there you can take the bus or taxi to get to your specific destination.  

From Busan

It’s a bit more difficult and takes a long time to get to Danyang from Busan, but still doable. Take the SRT from Busan station to Dongdaegu Station which takes about 50 minutes. From that station take the Express bus for 1.5 hours from Dongdaegu terminal to Andong Bus Terminal. Then board the KTX from Andong Station to Danyang Station which takes about 50 minutes. From Danyang station, you can take the bus or taxi to get to your specific destination. 

Things to do in Danyang – Top Attractions

Surprisingly there are several things to do in Danyang, making it a wonderful place to visit. One of the main reasons people visit Danyang is because of the famous and one of the most beautiful temples in South Korea called Guinsa Temple. 

Guinsa Temple

When you look up things to do in Danyang, this location will be the most popular result. This temple is popular because of its gorgeous view in the mountains, however, getting to this temple can be a bit of a trek. There is a parking lot there that costs about 3,000 won in cash only. Once you get to the parking lot, you’ll pay the parking attendant and then take a shuttle a little way up the hill, however, you’ll have to hike the rest of the way there. It’s a bit of a tough trek all uphill that I would not recommend with kids unless someone is carrying them.

Gosu Cave

This cave is one of the most accessible limestone caves in Korea. The cave itself however has a lot of narrow pathways where you will have to bend down to access some areas. If you are a claustrophobic person, I do not suggest you visit this area. Gosu Cave is quite impressive with several passageways that are approximately 995 meters long. There are a lot of beautiful limestone structures inside and interesting rock formations caused by water deterioration. This was one of the most interesting things to do in Danyang Korea.

Dodamsambong Peaks

This is a popular photoshoot location in Danyang Korea, something along the side of the road to take a break and enjoy nature’s beauty. There are 3 rocky hills in the middle of a river and at night there is a light show. Be sure to take a picture in the preset photo frame to get the perfect photo. There is a story behind these three peaks. They represent an ancient Korean love triangle. According to legend, there was a nobleman whose wife was unable to give birth to a son. So the husband took a mistress who soon became pregnant with his child. This is a must for things to do in Danyang.

Macheonha Sky Walk and Zipline

This Danyang skywalk called Macheonha Sky Walk is one of the most popular things to do in Danyang. Once you arrive after parking you will pay about 2,000 won for parking and then a shuttle bus will take you up to the skywalk. This skywalk is quite interested and you walk around an inclined path in a circle until you reach the 3 platforms you can walk out to. There is also a zipline you can take there as well but there is usually quite a long wait. This location can be difficult to get to via public transportation so I suggest you grab a taxi to get there if possible.

Danyang Danuri Aquarium

The way they have decorated this Aquarium on the outside makes it very enticing. There are a lot of fish sculptures placed outside of the aquarium and at night it’s all lit up. The aquarium only includes freshwater fish and the biggest freshwater aquarium in Korea, so you will not see any saltwater creatures in this aquarium. They have fish, amphibians, reptiles, and more.

Gosudaegyo Bridge

Right in front of the aquarium is the beautiful Godudaegyo Bridge. This bridge is particularly most beautiful at night and completely lit up. We grabbed some ice cream at the local market (시장) and walked down towards the pier and the Aquarium. There are a few things that light up along the pier including a fish from the Aquarium. If you enter the fish’s mouth, you can walk downstairs to the walking path along the edge of the river. This is one of the most popular things to do in Danyang at night. 

Suyanggae Light Tunnel and Prehistoric Museum in Danyang

This is an absolute must-visit for your things to do in Danyang if you have kids or just looking for a romantic date. It was so beautiful to go in and see the beautiful lights. We paid for access and it also allowed us into the museum as well. As you enter the tunnel, there are separate rooms each styled differently. Then as you exit the tunnel, there is a small walk to a larger area that is lit up. You will see cavemen lit up which kind of makes it funny and cheesy at the same time.

Moss Tunnel (이끼 터널)

Depending on the season, on your way to the Suyanggae Light Tunnel is the moss tunnel. The moss tunnel however isn’t really mossy, but more green in color. It’s a popular location to take photos when the roads are empty and clear. It just gives an interesting mood and atmosphere to your pictures. If you are trying to make the most of visiting all the things to do in Danyang, I would suggest skipping this one. 

Sainam Rock

Danyang is known for a lot of natural rock formations and viewpoints. These rocks are scenic in Danyang and added to the list of things to do in Danyang. The rock formations are about 70 meters high. It’s a very picturesque location. In the rock, there are some spots where Chinese characters are carved into it.

Go Paragliding

Danyang is known for paragliding because it has some of the best mountainous views to paraglide from. Additionally, Danyang is surrounded by high mountains which protect the area from certain weather conditions. Paragliding is one of the most popular things to do in Danyang. It is also fairly affordable compared to other places in the world I would say. Prices vary from 80 – 120,000 won. You can easily book your tour here.

What to eat in Danyang South Korea

Danyang I would say only has a few restaurants. The most popular area to eat in Danyang is the street food market. The market is popular among locals and tourists as well. Some of the food that Danyang is known for are:
