Songwol Dong Fairy Tale Village
This beautiful Songwol-dong fairy tale village was created because of the many foreigners that were moving into the area. This colorful village was inspired by classic fairy tales from around the world. This entire village has been painted in bright colors with some of the famous characters like Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Repunzel, Pinnochio, and more.
Just neighboring next to Songwol Dong Fairy Tale Village is Chinatown where many Chinese Korean immigrants settled. Songwol Dong Fairy Tale Village is known to be one of the perfect places for couple dates, photography, visiting KDrama sites, and street art.

Get a stamp made using any picture you have
As an ESL teacher in Korea, one of the ways we reward our students are through a stamp board. Some of the teachers and I have created a stamp reward system where when you have a certain amount of stamps, you get a prize, coupon, or candy.
So naturally, I had to buy a one of a kind stamp for my kids and stumbled upon this cute little shop. I bought a stamp with my face on it, maybe not ideal, but the kids absolutely love it and are shocked to see me in their books. It would be great for letters, postcards, etc. Something personal and a great souvenir to take back home.

Stroll and get lost in the village
This is a great place just to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery. A lot of couples come here for dates so they can talk, hold hands, and take cute photos together. It’s a great place to just relax and treat it like a park. It’s not a fairly large place, so just embrace the small-town kind of a feel.

Take photos by the Rainbow Steps (KDrama filming location)
This is the KDrama filming location from What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. We honestly had the most fun here. Prior to coming to Korea, I really got hooked on What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, it was such a great show that one of my best friends and I would watch together. When watching it, I was desperate to find the place with the rainbow steps before I moved. It was one of the first things I did when I got to Korea was arrive here. These cute little steps mark my first steps of moving to Korea and its something I will always treasure in my memories and photos.
Eat local street food
There are a lot of options for street food especially heading towards Chinatown, but if you want some sweets in Songwol Dong Fairy Tale Village, I highly suggest you go to the one near the front. They have a variety of different sweets, however, I did not like the chocolate ice cream, please get the vanilla instead!
Some of the sweets there are:
- Ice Cream
- Strawberries on a stick
- Dalgona
- Bungeo-ppang (붕어빵)
- Character Cotton Candy
Buy Souvenirs, Socks, and other cute accessories
Since Songwol Dong Fairy Tale Village is popular for foreigners, it is also a hot spot for tourists. There are a lot of Chinese tourists who visit the area and so there are some souvenir shops in the area as well. Be sure to support some of the local businesses if you can.

Take photos in the popular Painted Sea of Fish
Just like in the entrance of Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village there are painted fish here as well. Although, I do find these fish to be a million times better than the ones in Busan. I think I enjoy them more because of the colors chosen or maybe the fact that this area is less crowded than in Busan. Busan attracts so many tourists, that it’s nice to have a less touristy feel of getting a good shot.
