Ahhh the holidays, it mostly smells like fresh baked goods, large portioned meals, warm drinks, quality family time and the excitement of winter vacations.
For me, it used to mean spending time with family in cold destinations like Seoul, South Korea, Buffalo, NY or in my hometown in California (Yes it gets cold in Sacramento, no snow, but about 32 – 28 Degrees Fahrenheit). Now, I live where I have no family nearby which means more opportunities to travel to visit them and I have spent my last 6 winter holidays visiting tropical destinations (mostly the Philippines since that is where my dad and family currently resides). I have given up my snowmen for sand people (haha get it? Hint: Star Wars Reference).
Below are a few great destinations to hang up your parkas and trade them in for your bikinis!
Now I have a bit of a bias when it comes to the Philippines as you know why, but it truly is a beautiful location and extremely affordable. There are so many beaches and islands to discover that will certainly take your breath away. I have learned that the more time I spend here, the more I need to discover. Visiting here for the holidays keep me refreshed and maintain my summer glow throughout the cold months. Also, if you still want that Christmas feel, visiting the Philippines is a perfect location to have the Christmas spirit and enjoy a tropical vacation.
What can I say about Thailand? It is truly a beautiful location and reminded me a lot of the Philippines. Thailand has great food, warm waters and comfortable climates. Like the Philippines it is very affordable and has become a popular location for traveling. There are lots of things to do in this beautiful country and lots of cities to explore like Phuket, Chang Mai and Bangkok.
Island surrounded by water with lots of excursions? Sign me up! The Bahamas is well known for its tourist charm, beautiful white sand beaches, and comfort along with luxury rolled into one. It is also a great destination for those of you who love all-inclusive resorts or cruises.
The Maldives is a great place to relax, lay out on the beach and stay in a villa on the ocean. This is a perfect location for those of you looking for a honeymoon location. My cousin went here for her honeymoon and it was so romantic and a relaxing break from the cold winter months. PS. I highly suggest you purchase some black tea bags here, their tea is so delicious!
This tropical destination is one that most dream to include in their bucket list. Luxury placed in beautiful huts above crystal clear blue waters, who wouldn’t want to experience this magical place? Although this place may cost you a pretty little penny with flights, but it is a place that did not disappoint for most travelers.
Fiji is one of my bucket list locations for a Tropical Destination. I have heard that the people from Fiji are absolutely the kindest, friendliest, and most welcoming people. With amazing food and culture, these island people really know how to live.
This has become a popular location and an Instagram sensation! So many people talk about Bali as if it were a love story, it has been a location most have fallen in love with.
Sri Lanka’s beaches are beautiful, has amazing food, and it is a less touristy destination, however that probably won’t last. The people are very friendly here and there is a lot to do with going on a Safari, see beautiful temples and more. If this place is not on your list, be sure to add it!
Who doesn’t want to go to Cuba these days? With the classic cars/taxi rides to take you around this beautiful blast from the past location, it is the destination that is most sought out for travelers.
Mexico is where a good friend of mine travels every year during the holidays. She raves about this being the best location for her and her family. There are lots of things to do together as a family.
