It’s that time for Adventures with NieNie’s Featured Blogger of the month program again. Each month I am sharing a new featured blogger. This program is to work with other travel bloggers and introduce them to my readers, that means YOU! This is a collaborative and supportive aspect to Adventures with NieNie.
Meet Maegan from The Wanderlust Dietitian!
- What inspired you to become a travel blogger?
Ever since my first trip abroad to Italy, people have asked me how I was able to do it. I am from the Southeast USA and travel is not something that happens often. Tradition would have it that you are born and raised in one place and that is where you are rooted. I became a travel blogger to open the minds of my fellow Southerners. I want to show how to travel cheaply but gain rich experiences. If I can do it, you can too.
- What makes you unique compared to other bloggers?
This is difficult to answer. I went through all the usual routes that society holds highly. I earned a college degree, began my career as a dietitian at 22 years old, and obtained a Master’s at the same time. What sets me apart is that I am leaving my corporate career behind to travel full time. This is something no one in my family or friends have attempted. My family and I will be living in an RV to gallivant around Europe and the UK.
- What got you into traveling?
My grandparents instilled a sense of adventure, curiosity, and wonder in me at an early age. We would road trip to Disney World every summer and my heart would be filled with “magic”. I eagerly listened to my Papaw recount stories from his travels during his career. He always encouraged me to seek my dreams and see as much of the world as possible!
- What country is next on your bucket list?
Spain in August 2017. This will be our first time to this beautiful country. We will be visiting between Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.
- Where do you currently live?
Our home base is presently in Pensacola, FL until our move abroad in May 2018.
- What is your most memorable travel experience so far and why?
Gosh, so many memories come flooding back to me. One of my favorite, unplanned experiences was in Cortona, Italy. Michael and I finished a late dinner and were strolling along the cobblestone streets when we heard boisterous music and laughter. We peeked through a doorway and saw a party taking place in an open-air courtyard. It turns out it was a 25th wedding anniversary and the guests were in full Medieval garb! We were pulled into the dancing and celebrated until the wee morning hours!
- What is your favorite city and country and why?
I’ve loved many places I have visited but Italy takes the cake! Italy stole my heart the moment I arrived and I long for that country every day! Florence, Italy would have to be my favorite city because of the food, people, and rich history. I am also a huge fan I Leonardo DaVinci and loved retracing his steps there.
- What is one destination that didn’t meet your expectations and why?
Venice, Italy did not meet my expectations because it was overly touristy. The restaurants on the canal were run by immigrants and those who did not speak Italian. I was taken aback by the frozen pizzas offered and the imported wine. The canals, bridges, and buildings were beautiful all the same but I can’t see myself visiting again.
- What is your greatest personal accomplishment?
I am proud of the writer I am becoming and the strength and determination it has taken to become a travel blogger. I have disappointed family and some friends by wanting to walk away from my J-O-B and travel. I feel that I am my truest self on the road and I want to rebalance the “work week” society has created. If I can make a living from the road, why shouldn’t I try?
